How do I get Rid of Liposuction Scars?

If you want to get rid of liposuction scars, you should initially understand that there is a good chance you won't be able to completely remove the scars no matter what methods you try. Even though you may not be able to get rid of the scars, it's possible to greatly reduce their appearance. Laser procedures are often used by people who want to eliminate liposuction scars. If laser removal doesn't get rid of the scarring completely, it should at least make the scars less noticeable. You could also try dermabrasion to make your scars flatten out if they are raised or lemon juice to lighten the color of your scars.

Your best chance of getting rid of liposuction scars is probably with laser treatment. Using lasers for scar removal can be expensive and is also not guaranteed to work. The lasers can penetrate the surface of your skin to get rid of the damaged layers underneath, and after a few treatments you may find that your liposuction scars are barely visible. The success of laser treatments for scar removal normally depends on how severe your scars are. If you only have minimal scarring, the treatments will likely be successful, but if you have extensive scarring the treatments may not work as well, and you might additionally have to undergo several laser treatments to see any results.

Dermabrasion is also considered useful for the removal of liposuction scars. You can also use dermabrasion in conjunction with laser treatments to get even better results. Dermabrasion is a type of extensive skin exfoliation. You can get it done at clinics that provide laser treatment, but some people prefer to purchase dermabrasion kits to use at home because it is less expensive. Dermabrasion works by sanding off layers of dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin, which may help to flatten out raised scarring.

Lemon juice is a home remedy that has long been used to reduce the appearance of scars. If you have noticeable liposuction scars that are red or purplish in color, you may benefit from applying a few drops of lemon juice to them every day. The lemon juice should help to lighten up the skin pigmentation of your scars over time, which might reduce the bright color of your scars. You may have to use the lemon juice for a few months before you notice any difference. This method won't make your liposuction scars disappear, but it might keep them from being so obvious.

@serenesurface-- Have you tried vitamin E oil? It's wonderful for getting rid of scars. If your main issue is the dark color of the scar, try vitamin C cream.

People sometimes use laser resurfacing for liposuction scars, but I personally don't think it's a very good idea. Laser treatments carry their own risks, they may cause side effects. And they're fairly expensive too, depending on the type of laser resurfacing you get. I think it's better to try other treatments first.

@serenesurface-- Scar creams may help but keep in mind that you might not see results for some time.

My liposuction scars are small and I'm not doing much aside from keeping my skin moisturized. I do wear sunscreen if the scars are going to be exposed to sunlight. My scars were very noticeably and dark in color for a very long time. They started fading about six months after the procedure and have continued to fade very slowly. It's been a year and a half now and they are barely noticeable. So I think that in some cases, liposuction scars may fade on their own. If the scars are not fading at all, then you might want to consider laser treatment.

Won't scar creams work for liposuction scars?
