How Do I Get Rid of Nose Pimples?

Amanda R. Bell

Nose pimples can be some of the most painful and obvious types of acne that people of all ages experience. To get rid of them, wash your face twice a day with a mild cleanser. Then, treat each pimple with an acne cream that contains either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, two known acne-fighting ingredients. For a more natural approach, you can use a product containing tea tree oil. Resist the urge to pick at the pimples, as this can actually make them worse and eventually result in scarring even after they are gone.

Washing your face in the morning and at night with a mild cleansing product can help to get rid of nose pimples. Even if your face does not feel dirty, oil build-up and dead skin cells can collect on your nose 24 hours of the day, clogging pores and resulting in breakouts. While you may think that the harshest, strongest soap will work best to remove the oil, bacteria, and dirt that collects in pores and causes pimples, strong products are typically too harsh for most skin types and can actually make pimples worse.

After washing your face, apply an acne treatment directly on nose pimples once a day, typically at night. If your nose becomes irritated, try applying the product every other day. Most treatments contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as the main active ingredient. In over-the-counter products, the amount of active ingredients is generally small, although they are typically still strong enough to treat mild to moderate acne. If these products do not work, you may have to make an appointment with a dermatologist for prescription-strength acne treatments to get rid of nose pimples.

If you have an aversion to chemicals in products or have had reactions in the past to benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, you may want to try an acne treatment that contains tea tree oil. This product is the natural version of benzoyl peroxide, and has been found effective in treating mild to moderate acne. Look for creams that contain 5% tea tree oil and apply the product directly to the pimples either once a day or every other day.

It can be difficult to resist picking at or popping nose pimples, as they tend to be painful and difficult to conceal. Despite this, picking at acne can cause more bacteria and dirt to become trapped in the pores, making the pimple larger and more painful, and can prompt the development of new nose pimples. Picking pimples can occasionally make them go away faster, although you are likely to be left with a noticeable scar on your nose from doing so. In general, it is best to wash you face regularly and apply topical treatments, waiting for the nose pimples to go away naturally.

Keeping the face clean is ideal, of course, but a mild hydrocortisone cream can help dry up the pimple, but can also help remove the redness which, of course, makes it less obvious.

I've had nose pimples right at the edge of my nostril where it meets my face. Those are the worst. They just sit there and hurt. I've been known to put a hot compress on those, hoping to bring it to a "head" so it will pop. Yeah, yeah, conventional wisdom says don't pop them, but those painful nose pimples on the side sometimes won't stop hurting until they pop, either by themselves or with help.
