Ginger chews are sweet candies made from ginger that are said to be helpful in combating motion sickness, morning sickness, and nausea in general. Ingredients in ginger chews include fresh ginger, cane sugar, vegetable oil, and potato starch, which means that these chews are usually all natural and gluten free. Ginger has long been heralded for its anti-nausea properties, and some studies report that ginger is even more effective than anti-nausea medications, and does not produce the same side effects as those medications.

For some pregnant women, morning sickness occurs all day long and prevents them from enjoying their daily routines. Taking anti-nausea medication, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy can be risky. Ginger chews are a safe alternative to medications, and can be enjoyed any time nausea strikes. Furthermore, ginger chews are not high in calories, containing only about 20 calories per piece. They are also can be conveniently stored in a purse, glove compartment, or pocket for easy access.

Other benefits of ginger include lowering stress levels and reducing pain. In addition to their anti-nausea properties, ginger chews and fresh ginger have anti-inflammatory properties. For this reason, ginger is widely recommended to help reduce inflammation and pain in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis patients. Taking ginger, however, should not be a substitute for getting regular medical check ups and treatment of arthritis and other joint-related conditions.

Consuming ginger or ginger chews may also help manage weight. Studies have shown that those who consume ginger may experience weight loss, even without alterations in the diet. Although the mechanism is not fully understood, it may be related to the fact that epinephrine levels rise after ginger has been consumed. Epinephrine is a hormone that causes a rise in metabolism, fast heart rate, rapid breathing, and a increase in perspiration. Epinephrine is also known as adrenaline and when higher amounts are produced in the body, the metabolism rises, contributing to weight loss.

Although ginger has been proven to be beneficial in the treatment of certain conditions, a health care provider needs to be notified when nausea and vomiting are severe and not responsive to treatment. When this occurs, dehydration can rapidly occur, which is especially concerning to pregnant women, small children and the elderly population. When severe dehydration occurs, intravenous fluids may be warranted to prevent complications.

I got them for a sore throat and found that they reduced my hot flushes! I've advised friends to try them too and most have seen a marked improvement.
