What Are the Different Types of Hairstyles for Frizzy Hair?

Frizzy hair can be a problem for all kinds of women. Though frizz most often occurs for those with curly or textured hair, women with straight, dry hair can also be subject to this frustration. Fortunately, there are two basic options when it comes to hairstyles for frizzy hair. One might tame the frizz with styling products and tools to make it smooth or coil it into curls. Another option for hairstyles for frizzy hair involves hiding the frizz with buns and braids.

Taming one’s hair is one of the most challenging aspects of styling frizz. Lack of time, humidity, and the need for expensive hair products can all work against people trying to wrangle their unruly locks. Those intent on going this direction must also condition their hair regularly and should avoid blow-dryers. Applying a leave-in conditioner to hair right after washing and letting it air-dry typically keeps some frizz from forming in the first place.

Smoothing serums are often the key to creating hairstyles for frizzy hair. Sweeping a dollop of this product through one’s hair before applying a flat or curling iron lubricates the hair and makes it less stubborn. From this point, all a lady usually needs is patience. Hair must be held in a flat or curling iron in 1 inch (about 2 cm) sections for several seconds each. Women with long, thick hair may require an hour or two for this type of styling.

Hiding frizz is the second, and possibly one of the fastest, hairstyles for frizzy hair. This generally involves coiling one’s hair into buns or smoothing it into sleek braids. Stylishly unkempt buns work well for frizzy hair because a few strands of hair can escape without ruining the entire look. One might gently sleek one’s frizz into a bun set just under one ear, at the nape of the neck, or just below the crown of the head. Two buns, set to either side of the nape of the neck, are charming and playful for more casual work spaces, coffee dates, and nights out with friends.

Braids can also hide frizz, though they may require a small dollop of mousse or lightweight styling serum to keep them neat all day. Playful double braids can easily become one in a roster of sleek hairstyles for frizzy hair, with the help of a side part and a few bobby pins. To do this, one must simply tie the two braids in a knot at the back of the head and pin the ends out of sight. A side braid, starting above one ear and wrapping around the back of the head, also looks professional, but can translate easily into a casual or nighttime setting.
