Clonidine is a prescription medication that may be prescribed to treat several different medical conditions, including high blood pressure, night sweats, and nerve pain. This type of medication may also be used to assist in drug detoxification. Some possible Clonidine side effects include dry mouth, constipation, and drowsiness. More severe side effects that should be reported to a doctor right away may include low blood pressure, chest pain, and hallucinations.

Many people who use this medication do not experience any negative side effects. Those who do report side effects generally state that they are mild and do not affect the ability to take the medication as prescribed. If these or any other symptoms become bothersome, a doctor should be consulted for further evaluation.

I've been taking clonidine now for one week. I have had to take it about 3 times, whenever my pressure has gone over 188. I'm concerned about the constipation that I am now experiencing.

I take clonidine for high blood pressure, so I haven't had dizziness. But the medication makes me very tired. I'm fatigued every day and doing routine chores feels difficult.

@donamrs-- Yes, I experienced dizziness on clonidine and no, it doesn't go away with time. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication, it reduces blood pressure. So when it's prescribed off-label for people who have normal or low blood pressure, it can cause these kinds of issues.

You should speak to your doctor about this because you need to get your blood pressure checked. You might be given a reduced dose or taken off of the medication altogether if your blood pressure is dangerously low.

My doctor prescribed me clonidine for menopause symptoms. It has only been a few days, but I have been experiencing dizziness frequently during this time. It usually happens when I stand up.

Will this side effect go away with time? Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
