What is Ozone Treatment?

Ozone treatment is a procedure that uses ozone’s natural oxidizing properties to treat diseases and kill pathogens. Proponents believe that ozone treatment can cure diseases such as cancer and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The theory is that using different ozone administering techniques allows ozone to target and kill various pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi, as well as cancerous cells. In some cases, the treatments have to be taken in conjunction with vitamins and supplements. Critics of ozone treatment state that there is no scientific proof for ozone killing pathogens or curing diseases inside of the body and that the ozone may do more harm than good.

Ozone can be created in a laboratory when an electric current is passed through oxygen to break it apart. Free oxygen atoms bind with oxygen molecule to form ozone. Ozone is an unstable molecule that will break down into one oxygen molecule and one oxygen atom. The atom is known as a free radical and seeks to steal electrons from anything it can find. This oxidation — when an atom steals an electron from another — can destroy or damage cells, such as bacteria and viruses.

There are different ways to administer ozone to a patient. Some of these ways are auto hemotherapy, injection, and insufflation. Auto hemotherapy occurs when a doctor pumps the blood out of a patient’s arm, filters and exposes the blood to ozone, and pumps it back into the patient’s other arm. A doctor can also inject the ozone into a person’s arm. With insufflation, a person sends ozone into various cavities such as the ear, vagina, or rectum.

Ozone treatment is thought to have the ability to treat virtually any kind of disease or illness. Proponents of this therapy say that the treatment is extremely effective. They claim that in the cases of AIDS patients, the combination of proper eating, taking supplements, and undergoing ozone treatment can help to kill the virus. This is in clear contrast to conventional medicines that just suppress the virus. Further, they claim that if used properly, there are no side-effects.

Critics of ozone treatment say that there is no real scientific basis for the treatment. They also state that no credible scientific proof has been written that proves the therapy works. In fact, they state that although ozone may work to inactivate the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in a laboratory, there is no proof that it works inside of the body. They also state that ozone and the products caused by ozone reactions have been linked to cases of adverse side effects to humans and animals. While ozone treatment may be controversial and not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of diseases, it is legal in many states and is used around the world to treat different diseases.
