@Pippinwhite -- Look around and see if you can find a battery-powered electric motor. With a yard as small as you say yours is, you can probably get the whole thing mowed on one charge and have some juice left over!
My husband bought one last year and they are wonderful! No gas to buy, they don't stink and they're much quieter than a gas mower. You can't even hear it until you get right next to it.
It's not worth the headache, to say nothing of the fee, to have your flowers cut down. How could someone think caladiums are something you cut down? Cretin.
I rent and the guy who the landlady hired to cut my grass? Well, let's just say he doesn't know the difference between grass and a flowering plant! Last year, he got every one of my caladiums I had under a tree! I was so Not Happy.
I'm seriously considering getting an old reel mower and just doing the front yard myself. It's tiny, and I don't think it would take me too long. I don't have anything in the backyard. He can knock himself out on the riding mower back there. Using a riding mower in my front yard is absurd. I've heard a reel mower is better for the grass, anyway.
